Mobile broadband allows us to access the internet while we are on the go from anywhere that you can obtain a mobile phone signal. Those looking to try out this new mobile broadband experience have 2 choices - pay as you go mobile broadband and pay monthly contract mobile broadband.

With pas as you go mobile broadband you can access the internet for a specified period, from 1 day to 30 days depending on how much you choose to top up your mobile broadband credit. Be aware that download limits are often imposed on pay as you go deals.

If you choose a pay as you go mobile broadband plan, you will have to pay for the dongle upfront. Mobile broadband time will also be more expensive than it would be with a contract, although you do have the freedom to switch supplier at any time.

Just as with pay monthly mobile phone contracts, if you want to set up a pay monthly mobile broadband contract then you will need a bank account so that you can set up a monthly direct debit to the service provider. Setting up this direct debit is mandatory with most mobile broadband companies.

Pay monthly mobile broadband contracts ...
... tend to offer you more flexibility than pay monthly mobile phone contracts, which can tie you down for at least twelve months at a time. Short term mobile broadband contracts are available, with some lasting as little as 30 days, after which you are free to cancel and switch to another provider if you wish.

The kind of internet access speeds that are currently available are not quite at the high speeds currently available through standard home broadband services. However, things are improving with mobile broadband providers expanding their coverage, and new technology enabling faster and faster connection speeds all the time.

If you already have a mobile phone contract with a network that also supplies mobile broadband, you may be able to get a substantial discount on mobile broadband if you choose to get it with that network.

If you fancy a brand new laptop thrown into the bargain, look out for mobile broadband contracts that come with a free laptop too. The only downside here is that contracts that come with a free laptop usually have higher rates than contracts that are laptop-free. Bonny Kominek suggest Vodafones mobile broadband if you are on the move. You can now take your office with you.
