Sitting outside ones house to relax or have meal is a popular pastime with many people nowadays. Especially for people who live in agreeable climates, it is a great way to get together with friends and cook a barbeque and just hang out. To be able to do that one will need some furniture or garden furniture to be precise. It is also called patio furniture by some people. Generally the basic set of garden furniture includes a few chairs and a table with a parasol attachment option. The parasol which is basically a big umbrella will help keep direct sunlight away when you are sitting outdoors.

When you make the decision to buy the furniture it may be a little confusing at first as to which type of furniture to buy. They can be made from a wide range of materials that are not normally used for furniture making for the simple reason that it will be used outdoors and therefore sturdiness is more important than looks.

Therefore you will find furniture made out of products such as plastic, metals, vinyl, wicker and even rock or stone. Generally the cheapest ones will be made out of plastic and the more expensive ones will ...
... be made out of wrought iron or wicker.

Plastic is not only cheaper but it does a good job of holding up to the weather. It may not look as nice as the other products but it can take a beating when it comes to constant sunlight and rain.

Out of the metal ones the cheaper alternative is usually aluminum. The only disadvantage of aluminum is that the protective coating can decay with exposure to sweat and chemicals like suntan lotion. Once the decaying starts it is difficult to reverse it. Other metals that are used are wrought iron Wrought iron is generally more expensive but can look very nice if done properly. It will give your garden an old fashion rustic look and feel.

Furniture made out of stone can also have the same effect as wrought iron except that it will be very heavy and mobility may be a problem.

That is if you need to move it from one place to another you may have to get a crane or something. But if you are not planning on moving it around a lot and put it in a fixed place then stone furniture can look very good. The other two popular products are wood and wicker chairs. Good quality outdoor wooden furniture will usually be made out of Teak wood. It is a very durable tropical tree that has trace amounts of silica in the wood which makes it weather and termite resistant to a certain degree.

The only disadvantage of teak is that it tends to be more expensive than other wooden furniture. Therefore sometimes some people may opt for a cheaper wood like pine that has been treated with various chemicals that make it very durable. Wicker is another tree or plant product that is used to make garden furniture. It is rarer to find this type but if you can then it can look very nice and classy if made by skilled artisans. Wicker can be taken from palm trees or certain types of bamboos. The use of it goes back thousands of years and one of the reasons why it is popular is that it is both sturdy and very light not to mention nice looking.
