Jeans have been a vital part of mens wardrobes for decades. Starting out as cheap workwear, they are still unbeatable for comfort, versatility, style and are as hard-wearing as ever. Finding the perfect pair can take time, but here is a guide to help you get started.

Deciding on a pair of jeans means first deciding what you are going to wear them for. If they are for work, you wan them to be made from hard-wearing good quality thick denim, if you want a pair for evening wear then you might want to consider a designer pair that have been painted and embellished.

Straight cut jeans are extremely versatile as they lend themselves to workwear, can be dressed up for casual evening wear, or roll up the bottoms for an on-trend look for this season. Straight cut jeans are great for lengthening the appearance of the leg, so are great for the shorter, slimmer gent.

Choosing from the variety of colour washes and shades that are available can be tough. It is best to pick a colour that will go with a lot of things in your existing wardrobe. As a rule, the darker the jeans, the more items they will match up with and the ...
... easier the jeans will be to dress up for evening attire.

If you want a casual pair of jeans, perhaps the pre-ripped or pre-distressed kind, then a lighter shade of denim will work better. Rips, frays and bleaching blends better with the jean and the lighter shades match up better with trainers too.

When it comes to finding the right fit, you will find an overwhelming choice of styles. Confusingly, different shops have different names for different denim styles and so if you are not sure what to look for, do not be afraid to ask a sales person who will be able to tell you all about their own shops denim range.

The three most basic mens jeans styles are straight cut jeans, boot cut jeans that have a slight flare at the bottom so that the jean fits nicely over the top of your boots or shoes, and casual fit, which are slightly looser than straight cut.

You will only ever know if a pair of jeans is perfect for you once you have tried them on. They should create a good shape, fit comfortably around your stomach and hips, and be comfortable to sit down in as well as walk around in, and should not be to loose around the hips either.
