Statement Shoes For 2010
With London Fashion Week under way and the spring season just around the corner, we take a look at what footwear is getting the fashion pack all excited. From workwear shoes to casual pumps to red carpet glamour, there are new trends for us all to look forward to.
When it comes to print and colour trends, the neon boldness of last season is still around, but designers have toned the whole look down on their latest catwalk shows. Instead of all over bright and bold shades of 80s rave pink and green, the trend is now for splashes of bright colour, accentuating the architecture of the shoe.
Those of you who hated the brighter than bright 80s-inspired footwear of last season will breathe a huge sigh of relief to hear that this season, we are going back to nature. Think natural sandy shades, earthy tones and terracotta browns and oranges and you are on the right track.
Complementing the trend for earthy and natural tones and prints, look out for detailing that fits in perfectly with this new take on footwear - gone are the steel and studs, they have now been replaced with more natural textiles like rope, cork ...
... and wood.
While the 2010 footwear colour scheme might be easier to live with, heel height for this season is another matter entirely. Spurred on by the success of 6 and 7 inch heels during 2009, designers are now looking at ever more ingenius ways to build their shoes higher than ever. This seasons heels are going to be sky high.
One of the biggest accent trends to look out for is fringing, particularly on boots and shoe-boots. Burberry had some heavily fringed heeled shoe boots on show at London Fashion Week this week, and further suede fringing was to be found on cowboy boots too.
Heel heights may be dangerously tall for 2010, but footwear fans can rest easy knowing that the wedge heel is really where it is at this season. Helping to show off the news trends for cork, wood and rope detailing, wedge heels make for a more comfortable way to wear womens shoes with height.
As the sun starts shining and you are wondering what sandal is the one for you this season, think bold accenting. Last years sandals were bold all over, but this year, instead of choosing a heavy-all-over shoe, go for a minimal design like a t-bar, but add boldness with a thick ankle collar.
