There are many different types of kitchen knife available, each one serving its own purpose in the catering environment. From bread knives to cheese knives, and from steak knives to carving knives, there is truly a knife for every situation. With the mass amount of different knife styles available on the market, there is of course a wide range of manufacturers also. Some are better known than others, but all have the same aim in mind; to produce a wide assortment of quality knives to aid chefs' in their cooking.

One such famous name is Victorinox. Producers of not only kitchen knives, but watches, Swiss Army knives and flashlights, they are the sole supplier of knives to the Swiss Army. They have been trading since 1884, and have been delivering their knives to the Army since 1891. The name 'Victorinox' is actually a combination of two words; 'Victoria' and 'Inox'. Karl Elsener, the founder of the company, chose the name 'Victoria' after his deceased mother, who died in the year 1909 The company continued to trade under the name Victoria until 1921. They have been using their emblem since that year - a cross in the centre ...
... of a red shield. In 1921, stainless steel was first introduced into the Victoria range of products and thus the term 'Inox' was added to the name - Inox being the French term for the metal. They have been trading as Victorinox ever since.

Originally, the Swiss army had two suppliers of their Army knife; Victorinox and Wenger. In 2005, Victorinox actually bought the Wenger brand, and now supply solely to the Army. As both brands supplied army knives initially, the two brand names - Victorinox's 'Original Swiss Army Knife' and Wegner's 'Genuine Swiss Army Knife' remain intact. These remain the main product of the company, although their other ranges of products are fast becoming popular.

The Victorinox kitchen knives sold by the company do not bear the Swiss Army brand logo, and Victorinox also sells kitchen cutlery under the name 'Forschner'. The Victorinox kitchen knives collection is a fast expanding one, with both large and small knives available, as well as knife sets (and cases to house them) being sold by many catering equipment suppliers.

Smaller Victorinox kitchen knives include paring and turning knives. They can be bought individually, or as part of a set. The Victorinox kitchen knives sets come with a wide variety of knives, including a filleting knife, a turning knife, a serrated carver and a palette knife. They also include other essential cutlery items such as potato peelers and forks. These knife sets come in a roll bag, but external carry cases are also available to buy.

Victorinox kitchen knives are of a good quality and readily available from a range of suppliers. They come with a one year warranty and are great additions to any busy kitchen to help the chef (s) prepare the best food possible for their customers. If you are looking to purchase either single Victorinox kitchen knives, or a full set, then rest assured you have made a great choice.
