Problem While Migrating Task Information From Lotus Notes To Exchange 2000 Server
This is a common scenario if you are using Migration wizard for Exchange 2000. Task information is not migrated properly and completely from Lotus Notes to Exchange Server mailboxes. I.e. when you export Lotus Notes users' email messages, calendar information, and task information from calendar to Exchange 2000 Server by using the Migration Wizard for Exchange 2000, some migrated users may complain that some of their tasks have been imported to their Outlook Tasks folder.
Cause
One must know that the Migration Wizard export only the tasks that are included in the Lotus Notes calendar. But it works differently in migrating tasks for Lotus Notes R5 version and Lotus Notes 4.6 version. Consider the following aspects:
I. In a Notes 4.6 mailbox database, there is a Display task on my calendar option for each task. By default, a task is not displayed in the calendar.
II. A Notes 4.6 mailbox database does not have this option; it is set up in the preferences for all of the tasks instead of for each individual task, but it causes the ...
... same problem.
Resolution
If you are using Notes 4.6 version then go for the following procedure on the tasks for migrating calendar items.
1. Open your Notes mailbox in your Notes 4.6x client.
2. Change to the To Do folder.
3. Open an existing task that was not migrated.
4. Click the Display task on my calendar button. The button will then change to Remove from calendar.
5. Save the task.
6. Run Migration Wizard for Exchange 2000 again. The task is migrated to Exchange 2000.
If not successful by doing this way, then considering third party tool for Notes to Exchange migration is the only choice left.
Follow the given steps for migrating tasks of Lotus Notes R5 calendar to Exchange Server 2000:
a. Open your Notes mailbox within a Notes R5 client.
b. Change to the To-Do section, and then click Preferences on the Tools menu.
c. On the Calendar tab, click the To Do tab.
d. Click to select the Always show current to do's in today's calendar check box.
e. Click OK.
f. Run Migration Wizard for Exchange 2000 again. The task is now migrated to Exchange 2000.
Dealing with such botheration is not a suggested thing, because incomplete migration often leads to loss of data. It's recommended that whenever you need to migrate from Lotus Notes to Exchange Server environment, go for professional third party tools for notes to exchange migration. These tools don't raise any migration issues and provide the user with complete and successful migration from Lotus Notes email environment to Exchange Server environment.
