Because modeling is a fun, glamorous and sometimes, high-paying job, many young models or even the parents of teen models would do anything to be able to launch their careers. Those who are starting out build their portfolios by accepting pro bono jobs. Other young models scout the Internet looking for clients and modeling work. Parents of teen or child models subscribe to many different sites just to make their child's career blossom and grow. But sometimes, caution is thrown to the wind, and these models and parents end up getting scammed or conned by people who only want their money. DonÕt be a victim to these con artists; prepare yourself by keeping the following tips in mind.

Do your research before signing up with an agency. Ask other young models or even the parents of child models about agencies you're eyeing. Use your search engine to double-check the modeling agency and its reputation. See if there has been any bad feedback from other models or if anyone has reported being scammed by the agency. If the agency is just young and new, think twice before signing anything or paying for anything. A lot of models ...
... have been scammed by agencies that have asked them to pay upfront.

When you visit a potential agency, check for licenses and the set cards of other models. You should see a license on the wall of the agency, if it is legitimate. Don't be scared to look around and check the portfolios or set cards of the other young models. There have been cases of small organizations acting as modeling agencies to trick young models into going into indecent professions or taking unlawful jobs. Make sure you have a parent or adult with you when visiting these agencies.

Be wary of agencies that force you to have your photographs taken even when you haven't signed anything. Some models, including child models, have been scammed into paying for expensive photography even when it isn't needed. You already have your set cards or comp cards with you, so you don't need a strange photographer taking extra photos.

Read your contracts carefully. It's also better if you get your parent or an adult to explain everything written in your contract for you. Don't skip the fine print. Make sure you understand each and every word and clause before signing anything. It's also important that you keep contracts and signed documents in a safe place.

Be doubtful of unknown clients that offer you a huge rate for modeling jobs, especially if you are just starting out. There have been models who have gotten big breaks, even if they weren't famous yet, because they were booked by big, popular brands. But if you don't know what the product is or haven't even heard of the company, don't be blinded by the promise of a huge salary. Chances are, you'll just be scammed.

The modeling world, despite all its glamour, can be a rough and tough one. There are many people who want to take advantage of models, especially the young, inexperienced ones. Keep in mind the things discussed above so you don't fall prey to these unlawful scammers and con artists.
