People have all kinds of different tastes in all kinds of different things. Fashions come and go over the years, but individual choice still plays a major part in what we do and don't watch, buy or listen to (and numerous other life choices!). For years, elders have complained about the changes in culture for younger generations, lamenting that things do not stay the same. The idea that trends get worse as years pass is certainly not confined to the twentieth and twenty first Century. Change, however, is a fact of life. Over generations we have found new technologies and found ways of understanding the world around us like never before.

When people think of changes in society, they often think about youth subcultures and tastes in music and dress. New music styles do tend to gain the limelight, but in the background human beings still have a taste for classical music, and these tastes can coexist quite happily within an individual. To demonstrate that people have not forgotten more traditional pursuits, just look at ballet. A lot of children learn to ballet dance from a young age, and thoroughly enjoy lessons. ...
... Dance is constantly evolving to express different cultures and tastes. Modern dances are also a popular choice with young people, often because they like to emulate pop star role models. Different dances require different dance clothing, and for some one major appeal of ballet are the elegant garments, from the tutu to laced pointe shoes.

Although in reality far more dance practices take place in leotards, young girls wanting to take up ballet tend to be envisaging themselves in a tutu. What a lot of them don't know at first is that there are all kinds of tutus to choose from, all suiting different performances. These include styles such as the classical bell, classical pancake, romantic, platter and the Balanchine/Karinska. These are all wonderful garments, all embody the elegance and spirit of ballet, whilst enabling a performer to perform moves unhindered. Often a tutu will be worn for performances, which can require specific designs and colours. Luckily, retailers of ballet clothes can provide all kinds of styles in a rainbow of colours. Pink is probably the colour most commonly associated with tutus, though white and black are also very popular. Some ballets require very specific clothing to help audiences recognise characters at a distance, and many ballet characters are easily indentified.

Recently clothing traditionally associated with professional dance has become popular in other scenes. Spurred on by the use of garments such as leotards in music videos, night clubbers have taken to wearing very flamboyant dance wear. Fluorescent and neon tutus and tutu dresses in all the colours of the rainbow are available to make clubbers stand out from the crowd. Others prefer to purchase dance wear in more traditional colours. A question of personal taste, there are amazing dance clothes out there to suit almost any taste! This goes to show how ballet is still popular, and how it continues to have an impact on modern popular culture.
