Environmental change and its bad impact on the environment is the hot topic of recent times. Industries have very bad effect on the environment. They discharge different harmful elements in the environment. These elements make harm to our environment and are threatening the existence of the world. Governments are becoming aware of this problem and try to make up the problem by applying different rules and regulations on industries. So the industrialists are now becoming conscious and try to follow the rules.

Environmental consulting is a form of compliance consulting. Here the consultant ensures that the client maintains an appropriate measure of compliance with environmental regulations. Among many types of environmental consultants, main two groups are those who enter the field from the environmentalist side and who enter the field from the industry side.

An environmental consultant works on commercial contracts for both commercial and government organizations to address a variety of environmental issues for their clients in a number of areas, planning stages of a land development, or as part of an audit process, ...
... such as noise/vibration measuring, land and environmental management, waste management and measuring contamination of land and water. In the job there is a mixture of scientific data collection, auditing and analysis, reporting results and findings, partaking in presentations.

A scientific background is musty needed for an environmental consultant. A consultant is needed to gain a scientific qualification in subjects such as chemistry, physics, agricultural or horticultural studies, engineering, or urban and land studies. He also has to gain knowledge in ecology, geology, hydrogeology, organic chemistry or wildlife management.

A consultant also needs some personal skill. Communication skills are vital as he has to undertake a certain amount of public speaking or giving presentations. Strong IT skill is also required.

Assessment of air, land and water contamination, environmental impact assessment, environmental audit, waste management, development of environmental policy and development of environmental management systems are the fields and disciplines that the environmental consultants cover.

There is clearly a wide range of typical activities that an environmental consultant has to undertake on a day-to-day basis, such as--

Collecting data to establish a baseline condition for levels of pollution or contamination for a site or area of consideration.
Data interpretation means including detailed assessment of data, often using software modeling packages, to identify whether 'contamination' exists in accordance with legislative drivers.
Identification and consideration of the potential contaminant sources, critical pathways and receptors that could potentially have an adverse impact on the immediate and wider environment.
Completion of detailed scientific reporting, written in a manner that can be understood by non-technical people.
Dialogue with clients, regulators and sub-contractors.
Carrying out desk-based research to review previous investigations of a site that a client wants to purchase, and possibly undertaking field work, to identify previous activities on the site and any contamination.

Environmental consulting spans a wide spectrum of industry. The most basic industry that environmental consulting remains prominent in is the commercial estate market. Many commercial lenders rely on both small and large environmental firms. Many commercial lenders will not lend money to borrowers if the property or personal capital does not exceed the worth of the land. If an environmental problem is discovered, the property will loose its worth.

An environmental consultant plays a very important role. The help the industries to abide the rules thal the government passes for the industries and in this way they also help to keep the environment healthy.
