A typical list of careers in the legal industry includes lawyers, assistants to these lawyers, secretarial staff, attorneys and the paralegals. These are purely legal jobs and one can get one of these jobs by getting a degree in law or any other formal education in law. However, apart form these regular jobs; law firms now hire talent from different fields too.
A law firm which specializes in road accidents related cases would need medical experts to ascertain the damage done to those involved in the road accident. They would also need people who can stay in touch with hospitals so as to find prospective clients and service existing ones. Remember in most accident cases, hospitalization is the first step and lawyers often find new clients at hospital ward itself.
A firm which takes up homicide cases often needs services of a psychologist or a family counselor who can help them understand the psyche of the accused or defendant and the environment in his/her house. These people help lawyers make strong arguments in favor of their clients and are often successful in influencing a jury.
Similarly cases involving ...
... tax issues, requires tax consultants who can understand the minute details of tax regulations passed by the federal and/or the state governments. Big corporations too employ law graduates and tax experts to understand intricate tax laws of different countries. Intellectual rights are usually a contentious issue with millions of dollars at stake. Hence companies now keep in house legal experts to protect and safeguard their business interests from rivals.
Business Law understanding is essential in business. Business deals and the deal making process itself has now far more complications than in the past. Transactions now happen across tax jurisdictions, across countries involving different currencies. With the world economy slowly integrating, governments and their legal bodies are framing new laws. This has also created new employment opportunities in this field.
With the career options mentioned above and many more similar opportunities Law is now no more a field of poor career options with the emergence of the new business order.
