Fumi Yoshinaga Does A Not-yaoi!
By Mat K.
That pretty much says it. This week the popular yaoi author, whose regular series even seem pretty yaoi-ish is finally putting out a book that has (seemingly) nothing to do with gay love. The new book is called “All My Darling Daughters“ and is a story about a regular salary earning woman named Yukiko who is in her thirties and still lives with her mother Mari. Their close relationship suffers a sudden change when one day, Mari announces she’s getting married to an ex-host who’s even younger than Yukiko. It’s kind of a difficult thing for anyone when your single parent starts dating someone younger than you, let alone marries them! Well, drama is always abound with Fumi Yoshinaga.
That’s not all that’s going on this week, just so you know. It actually seems to be a good week for big names. Osamu Tezuka’s Black Jack Volume 9 shows up, as well as Rumiko Takahashi’s Rin-Ne Volume 2 and Naoki Urasawa’s Pluto Volume 7. Oh yeah and Takhiko Inoue ...
... has Real Volume 7 and Vagabond Viz Big Edition 6. It’s like celebrity week or something. Even my personal favorite Kosuke Fujishima’s Oh My Goddess Volume 34 comes out, and that always thrills me. I wish we could catch up with Ah Megami-Sama. Even French publishers are way ahead of us on that one. But I digress.
Also showing up is Yuji Iawahara’s Cat Paradise Volume 3. And I bring this up because Cat Paradise seems to be picking up the pace both in its releases and in popularity. The initial story is that a girl goes to a high school for the sole reason that they allow pets in the dorms, and she has a pet cat. She soon finds that there is a demon cat trapped on campus and the student council and their pets are fighting an age old battle to keep the demon at bay. In book 3 a spirit beast could be possessing a student and the whole council is on alert. But little does anyone know that their own chief secretary could be leading them to destruction! Dun dun dunnnnnnn! Following the vein of both “Her Majesty’s Dog†and oddly enough “Shugo Chara“, “Cat Paradise†makes for a good action series, and it has pretty good art to boot. It’s always exciting when new series start getting their wings.
Wrapping up this week is a new children’s manga by an artist known as Sirial. One Fine Day is an adorable book about an anthropomorphic Cat, Dog, and Mouse whose owner is a magician. And no matter if it’s walking in the rain or baking cookies, these animals tend to strike up mischief where ever they go. With lovely water colory art and super cute characters, this one is a great book to get young kids into reading, or young readers in to a new series, since its hard to find stuff in the “All Ages†category. let alone stuff that isn’t lame. Anyway, that’s my bit for the week, so, until next time!
Ja Ne!
