Hvac Systems For Government Facilities
Government facilities are incredibly unique facilities. This is especially true with their HVAC systems. Unlike many other buildings, governmental owned structures must account for all of the money that they spend. Every penny that is spent by government facilities will be questioned by the representatives, and further interrogated by their constituents. This is also true about the costs associated with A/C and heating. A proverbial tight rope must be walked when managing a government budget, especially with the growing environmental concerns and the need to “go green.†Unfortunately, air conditioning upgrades typically need to be completed all at the same time. This is almost always a costly venture.
It is vital that government owned properties consider their needs prior to upgrading any of their systems, but especially before upgrading their heating and cooling systems. Usually, a new heating and cooling system with a perfect or near-perfect energy rating will save facilities an average of 20% in heating and cooling costs in a typical month. Normally, this is about a 10% reduction in the ...
... total energy costs of a facility. Given this large percentage, government facilities using outdated systems may want to strongly consider upgrading to a newer, more energy efficient system. When searching for the new system, ensure that an adequate amount of research has been conducted prior to the installation. This is absolutely necessary, because any government owned building choosing to spend money on a utility upgrade will likely be questioned about it. However, as long as the reason for installing the new system can be adequately defended, there will typically not be any major issues. Furthermore, as soon as the cost of the facility’s energy bills begin to dramatically decline, all of the naysayers will be converted to a new way of thinking and will see the wisdom in upgrading the old HVAC system.
Installation of an upgraded system is only half of the battle. Once installed, proper maintenance is essential. As with any other type mechanical device, such as a car, neglecting to perform proper routine maintenance almost always leads to incredibly costly and time consuming repairs later on. Not only is it more convenient to simply have the maintenance performed, but it is almost a major money saver.
Many government facilities have an extremely tight budget, without room to employ a trained staff of technicians to handle A/C maintenance and repairs. Government occupied structures that can afford to employ this type of personnel should strongly consider the notion, as this is generally the best way to ensure that all maintenance and repairs are handled promptly. Facilities that cannot afford such a staff should look into outsourcing this particular need. A variety of companies offer contracted services, allowing a facility to utilize trained personnel when necessary and not have to worry about paying a staff of technicians when they are not needed. The company that installed the air conditioning system will most likely be able to provide a wide variety of referrals to reputable companies for this type of service.
