Liverpool to appeal against length of Sadio Mane’s ban after red card
Liverpool will appeal against the length of Sadio Mane’s three-match ban after he was sent off during Saturday’s 5-0 defeat at Manchester City.
Mane, 25, was dismissed in the 37th minute after catching City goalkeeper Ederson in the face with a high foot.
The Senegal forward is due to miss Premier League matches against Burnley and Leicester, as well as a trip to the latter in the EFL Cup.
His ban could be reduced by one or two matches if the appeal is successful.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said on Saturday that neither he nor City counterpart Pep Guardiola thought Mane should have been sent off.
Match of the Day pundits Alan Shearer, Gary Lineker and Ian Wright all said they would have gone for the ball, while Chris Sutton told Match of the Day 2 that Mane’s red card should be rescinded.
However, former England internationals Jamie Carragher and Phil Neville were among those to say referee Jon Moss was right to dismiss Mane.
Vincent Janssen set to join Fenerbahce on loan
Tottenham striker Vincent ...
... Janssen is set to join Turkish club Fenerbahce on a season-long loan deal.
The 23-year-old joined Spurs in July 2016 but only managed six goals in 38 appearances in all competitions during his first season.
The Netherlands international has moved further down the pecking order following the arrival of Fernando Llorente from Swansea this summer.
Fenerbahce are also interested in a loan deal for Chelsea’s Diego Costa.
On Thursday, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino said that Janssen still had a future at the north London side despite his exclusion from their Champions League squad.
“That is about numbers,” said the Argentine manager, when asked about the Dutchman’s omission.
“We only have 17 places. We are 19, so we left out both Vincent and [Argentina midfielder] Erik Lamela.
“In January we check again to see if we change the names in the squad. But, yes, he has a future like other players here.”
Fifa opens disciplinary proceedings after Dele Alli’s gesture at Wembley
Fifa has opened disciplinary proceedings against Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli after he gestured with his middle finger during England’s match against Slovakia on Monday.

Television pictures showed Alli’s gesture during the 2-1 World Cup qualifying victory at Wembley.
The 21-year-old said i
t was a “joke with good friend” Kyle Walker.
It is thought the case will not be dealt with until late September at the earliest.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, who also described the gesture as a joke, said Alli was unlucky to be caught on camera and that his general behaviour is fantastic.

Alli and full-back Walker were team-mates at Spurs until the latter joined Manchester City this summer.

The incident occurred in the 77th minute after Alli was body-checked by Fenerbahce defender Martin Skrtel, and referee Clement Turpin waved play on.
It initially appeared that Alli gestured towards Turpin, with whom he also had words when he was substituted in the 93rd minute.
