A Truly Versatile Product - High Density Polyethylene Plastics

High Density Polyethylene Plastics or commonly known as HDPE is one of the most versatile manmade products. It is used in a wide range of products right from hard hats to house wrap. It is reusable in its recycled form too.
The story of its origin:
First produced in 1930 in England, High Density Polyethylene Plastics did not gain favour in the production market till the 1950s. The process of making High Density Polyethylene Plastics is relatively simple, by stringing together ethylene molecules (thus ‘poly’‘ethylene’), which are derived from natural gas resources. This along with its versatile qualities makes it very popular in the market today.
Why is High Density Polyethylene Plastics so popular?
1. High Density Polyethylene Plastics are light in weight yet strong in quality. That is the reason storage containers for liquids which weigh just 200 grams can carry 10 litters of liquid. Another popular use is the fueltanks in modern cars which weigh hardly any amount thus increasing fuel efficiency.
2. It is sturdy and impact resistant. That is why products made from High Density Polyethylene ...
... Plastics are breakage proof.
3. It is weather proof and can withstand extreme temperatures. For example plastic garden furniture and roof sheets.
4. It is resistant to damage, rot and insects. That is why the pipes that carry water to us in our building and in the city are made from High Density Polyethylene Plastics.
5. It is highly malleable. That is why many of the household products are commonly made from High Density Polyethylene Plastics. From the pot to store water to the fancy plant holders in our gardens.
The many uses of one product
With all the above qualities, High Density Polyethylene Plastics have been replacing conventional products and materials used in packaging. The impact on the environment with the use of these products is also less due to the fact that High Density Polyethylene Plastics can be recycled. Hence we find that many products we use every day are made from these. Containers for foods and beverages, cosmetics, household products, detergents etc, to pipes and cables and other plastic items used on a large scale. After all this High Density Polyethylene Plastic are versatile, durable and strong.
… and its reuses too!
Most of the products made from High Density Polyethylene Plastic are recyclable. They all come bearing a code at the bottom of the product which tells of the recycling process to be used. This means that these products do not need to be discarded in landfills but can be reused in other forms such as plastic storage containers, plastic lumber, outdoor furniture, playground equipment, automobile parts, trash cans, compost bins, and recycling bins etc.
