Steering wheel is a part of the steering system of a vehicle. It is located at one end of the system and is instrumental in moving the vehicle in the desired direction. Actually it directs the vehicle on the course chosen by the driver. The driver rotates the steering wheel to change the direction of movement of the vehicle. To keep it steady on its course it has to be wisely manipulated. The steering system carries the instructions of the driver to the wheels of the car. Mechanical devices in the system convey this message. These days a computerized electronic device and motors are also used in the system to make it more efficient and easier to operate.

While in motion the driver has to constantly handle the steering wheel and watch the road and the traffic on it. It needs a lot of concentration. If the driver is not comfortable in his posture or is required to stretch himself while driving it may affect his concentration. The height of the steering wheel has to so adjusted that while resting his feet on the pads on the floor he can easily operate the steering in his normal position. He should not be required to raise ...
... himself upwards or move forward on his seat. At the same time he should have a clear view of the road. There is a mechanism to adjust the height of the steering wheel. These adjustments have to be made by the driver prior to commencing driving. You also have the choice of modifying the steering wheel that came with your stock car to make it more suitable to your driving style.

There are power aided steering wheels which reduce effort on the part of the driver. Use of hydraulic systems in steering further helps the driver. Steering wheels are used in all types of vehicles like cars, and trucks heavy and light. Safety of the vehicle as well as of other traffic on the road rests on the steering to a great extent. Any malfunctioning of the steering or its absent minded manipulation may cause accidents. Actually the entire steering system need to be checked from time to time and kept in proper condition.
