3D Printer is different from common printer. Using 3D printer, we can print object in three dimension. A 3D model is built up layer by layer is called rapid prototyping or 3D Printing.
A common process of 3D Printing is to apply a fine powder such as plaster, bioplastic, polyurethane, polyester, epoxy, metal, etc. in 3D inkjet printers. Printer form a fixed object by printing out the layer of powder on a bed. This design is defined by a CAD file.
Fused Deposition Modelling is a simple method processing of 3D printing thats why the most of the desktop 3D printers found within homes and garages today utilize FDM/FFF. PLS or ABS are thermoplastics which is fed into the extruder through hotend. Googey liquid is formed by melting the plastics using hotend. Then the printer get the information from the computer via G-code and deposits the molten plastic layer by layer until an entire object is created. During this process, Plastics melted rapidly which provides a solid surface for additional layer deposition
Apart from PLS and ABS, Other numerous materials may be used but it depends on the maximum temperature of ...
... the hotend as well as other variables
Photopolymer is an another way of using liquids, by the same inkjet head type which is also built the model layer by layer.
Following, print head is activated by using ultraviolet light which in turns liquid layer into solid layer. This process is known as sterolithography. This technology is costly compared to FDM so, it is less used. SLA uses laser or DLP Projector combined with a photosensitive resign. Objects are printed in a vat of resin as a laser or other lighting source like a projector slowly hardens the resin layer-by-layer as the object is formed.SLA provide better accuracy and less layered appearance than FDM.
SLS(selective Laser Sintering) and Direct Metal Laser Sintering(DMLS) are Same. It differs based on the material used. DMLS uses metal powder for layer by layer sintering whereas SLS is the same process of DMLS but uses non-metal materials such as plastics, ceramics, glass, etc. Both SLS and DMLS do not melt the material fully instead sintering them or fusing them together at the molecular level. In DMLS, the molecules have varying melting points that means it can't melt the material fully sometimes be difficult to achieve.
Nowadays, 3D printer usage is common in all business enterprises and concepts which are time saving. These machines are used in medicine, architecture and also in entertainment industries such as game and film industries. Today artists also using 3D printer for their creation which can be very helpful to be finished in short time.
More companies are specialised in printing 3D models and providing services for business and individuals.
The disadvantage of the individual home user is cost of 3D printer is high and it takes hours or even days to print 3D models. Also professional software and 3D model design are cost high. Already there are simplified 3D printer which are cheaper and material also less expensive. Commercial 3D printer are accurate than home use 3D Printer.
