Did you know that there are lottery wagers that you shouldn't waste your money on? These are referred to as garbage wagers. But, some people don't like to take out the trash.

Occasionally, I receive emails from people challenging doing this. There aren't very many of them but, they are reluctant to accept the idea of doing this. They do this notwithstanding the best lottery software analysis available and overpowering evidence to the contrary. They refuse to allow simple things like logic and facts sway their opinion.

One type of trash wager can be identified using, what is called, Balanced Wager Analysis. The term, Balanced Wager, owes it name to the ever popular playground attraction; the teeter-totter. Recess was so much fun. But, then your buddy hopped off to fast and you didn't speak for a week. Fun on the teeter-totter comes from maintaining balance.

That same lesson applies equally well to the lottery. Too many low numbers in the wager and the wager tilts to one side. Too many high numbers in the wager and the wager tilts to the other side. Understanding this simple analogy is important ...
... to the serious lottery player.

Two Kinds of Garbage

Fortunately, there is an easy way to identify such wagers so that a computer can help us throw out the trash. Take the numbers in a wager and add them up. Any lottery will do but we'll use Lotto Texas a 6/54 game. The lowest possible sum comes from the wager 1-2-3-4-5-6. The sum is 21. This is the absolute minimum for a lottery where 6 numbers are drawn. The highest possible sum comes from the wager 49-50-51-52-53-54. The sum is 309. For any 6/54 lottery, this is the maximum sum.

Here's where it gets interesting. The vast majority of lottery drawings turn out to be Balanced Wagers; neither tilting to far to one side or the other. Spending your lottery money on wagers that are balanced is the best strategy.

For those that are still not convinced, let me go further. I'll just create a graph that shows how the sums of all the possible wagers are distributed between the minimum and the maximum sums ( 21 thru 309). Using a hand calculator is out of the question unless you're willing to wait 50 years to see this graph. But, a computer and some good lottery software can show us what we want to see in seconds. So for the skeptics, if a picture is worth a thousand words then this graph speaks volumes.

Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to put graphs in this article but, you all know what it looks like. It is referred to as a bell shaped curve.

To the far left are wagers with the lowest sums and on the far right are wagers with the highest sums. Between the two extremes is a big camels hump in the middle where most of the wager sums appear. The most probable events appear near the center of the graphs; least likely events are found to the extreme right and left. This is true for all lotteries and should silence any skeptic.

Between the 30% and 70% points (the middle of the graph) you will find 90% of all possible wagers. The best lottery strategy would obviously be to not waste any of your lottery dollars on the very low probability wagers.

Doing so accomplishes two things:

1. You avoid spending your money on the least likely wagers.
2. Your lottery dollars are concentrated in the area where they are more likely to do some good.

Not only is this valid, actual lottery drawings back it up. Plotting the balanced sums of the actual winning numbers for Lotto Texas forms a perfect bell shaped curve. Nearly all of the lottery jackpot winners are found right in the middle of the graph.

For those of you that are thinking that I cherry picked the TX654 lottery because it fit my hypothesis, think again. All lotteries perform this way. These results can be replicated with all lotteries.

If you're still not quite sure then, try this. You have a choice of two different lakes. One has 90% of all the fish in it and the other lake has only 10% of the fish. So, which lake is going to float your boat?

Warning: If you want to land the big one, you better pick the right lake.
You have a choice. Continue to throw your money away or start playing smart.Lottery software can help you control your cost. For the whole story visit http://www.lotterynumberadvisor.com/, Your Lottery Number Advisor.
