Most women blame hormonal imbalance for several problems related to the reproductive system. However, most women are not aware that there are symptoms unrelated to the reproductive system that needs attention. A study reveals that problems such as increased urination, back pain, etc may be symptoms of some underlying health issues.

Unfortunately, it is assumed that women treat themselves with the help of over-the-counter drugs but it may not be the case always. If you have persistent symptoms, it is strongly recommended that you visit a reputed gynaecologist in Kolhapur and get yourself treated.

Also, here is a list of top 5 gynaecological problems that a woman should never ignore.

1. Dysmenorrhea

This refers to painful menstruation. They are of two types; Primary dysmenorrhea and secondary dysmenorrhea. Primary dysmenorrhea is more common between the two and often goes unnoticed by most women. It is the condition in which a woman experiences cramping pain in her lower abdomen shortly before or during the initial days of the menstruation and may continue for 3 days. Also, this occurs in the absence ...
... of any pelvic disease. Primary dysmenorrhea may become less painful as a woman ages or stop completely after first child-birth.

Secondary dysmenorrhea is menstrual cramps due to contractions in the uterus. It usually appears at the beginning of the menstrual cycle and lasts for a long time.

Symptoms

The symptoms of dysmenorrhea include:

• Mild to severe pain in the abdomen (Pain can be severe at times.)
• Pressure like feeling in the abdomen
• Pain in the hips, lower back, and inner thighs

Symptoms of severe cramps may include:

• Upset stomach
• Vomiting
• Loose stools

2. Ovarian Cysts

The ovary is a pair of sac-like reproductive glands that are located on either side of the uterus in the pelvis. They are responsible for producing female hormones that are responsible for development of breasts, body hair and body shape. Ovaries also regulate the menstrual cycle and pregnancy.

Ovarian cysts may be caused due to many reasons and follicular cyst is the most common type. These cysts form when follicle grows bigger than its normal size and does not release the egg. Follicular cysts resolve over a period of time. Corpus luteum cyst is another type of cyst that occurs after an egg is released by the follicle. If this does not result in pregnancy, the cyst breaks down and vanishes. This type of cyst produces no symptoms and resolves on its own. Consult a gynaecologist in Kolhapur if you have any queries regarding the types of ovarian cysts.

3. PCOD

This is the most common hormonal reproductive problem and affects about 5%-10% women. In this condition, follicles are formed but they don’t grow into eggs. The ovaries keep creating follicles which cause several cysts. This gives rise to menstrual cycle but no fertilization. Also, when ovaries do not function properly it leads to more male hormones that causes excess hair growth or excessive loss of hair.

Symptoms may include;

• Menstrual problems such as heavy periods, irregular periods or no menstrual periods.

• Loss of hair loss from the scalp and growth of hair growth (hirsutism) on the face, chest, back, stomach, thumbs, or toes.
• Oily skin with acne
