Challenges such as lack of storage or minimal square footage are quite common when you are living in an apartment. With a right mix of materials and elements, you can easily convert a space to feel cosy or serene, without having the need to sacrifice practicality.

One of the main challenges faced by these apartments is the bathrooms. Bathrooms are one of the most highly functional places in any houses and thus require proper planning and execution.

Designing a small bathroom need not be impossible. You can always focus on functionality, and then proceeding to storage and finally to decor. At the end of it all, your bathroom may be small, but your next favourite room.

Here are some of the tips you can consider for your small bathroom designs with your makeover:

Opt for small scale fixtures: You may be particular towards a large bath tub, but can the space in your bathroom afford to have it? Do you need to have a large vanity table and a sink in the same space? In such cases, you need to opt for small scale fixtures, that will suit your requirements, and yet do not take up space in the room.

Glassdoor: Even though space in small bathroom designs may be restricted, you can always create an illusion of space. Glass is one such way to do so. You can have a glass shower enclosure, that will give you the illusion of space in a small bathroom, as it allows you to see from one room to the other. If you must, you can consider removing the tub and curtains in the bathroom and replace it with glass doors. You can opt for swinging doors or glass doors as per your preference.

Play with colours: Like glass, colours can also play an important role in creating an illusion of space. Certain colours, patterns and hues are best to reflect natural light in small bathroom designs. This will lend a serene air in your bathroom. You will also need to work around the amenities present in the bathroom, such as a tub, enclosed shower or cabinets. In this case, you can opt for soft hues that reflect natural light from the window, especially if you need to create space around a free-standing tub. Alternatively, for rooms that have fewer amenities, you can opt for ultra dark shades to emphasise the height and depth of the room. With the right pattern, you can convert the room into a spacious scene.

Add Floating Storage: Floating shelves work in any space. However, they are efficiently produced in bathrooms, especially where square footage and horizontal surfaces often lay on the lower end of the spatial spectrum. These storages can have pocket doors instead of the standard swinging doors. This will lead to privacy in the bathroom while freeing space on the floor.
