A mattress is one of those items that just about everyone has. It can be a mattress that you own in your home, it can be a mattress you use while you live in a dorm or one you sleep on while staying in a hotel. There are many different versions of mattresses that can be purchased. Some are pillow tops, some are firm and some are soft.

There is a newer type of mattress that is out that is supportive yet forms to the shape of a body and will last longer than any traditional mattress. A memory foam mattress is giving people better nights of sleep.
Polyurethane is a polymer made up of a chain of organic units connected by urethane links.

This combined with other chemicals is what makes up memory foam. There are many different versions of memory foam. The thickness and the density of each model will vary. The thickness of the mattress will determine how quickly the foam will mold to a body. The thicker the mold, the quicker the foam will mold.

NASA was where memory foam and its creation started. NASA was trying to develop another type of cushion to use on its spaceships. The leader researcher branched ...
... off and started his own company to take the memory foam technology and make it available to the public.

Hospitals and medical facilities were the first places to purchase memory foam. This material was used for patients who had back problems. It made it a bit more comfortable for them. The foam was also used for patients who were confined to a bed for long periods of time.
Starting off, memory foam was expensive. After a few years though, the prices came down and the public took an interest.

Memory foam can be purchased as mattresses, mattress toppers and pillows. Even though the prices of memory foam mattresses are higher, they typically do last longer than a traditional mattress. A memory foam mattress has an average lifespan of 20 years where a regular mattress has an average lifespan of 12 years.

Memory foam does come with a few negatives. The makeup of memory foam does make it supportive to the body. But that support does make it heavier than a regular mattress. Also the chemicals used in the makeup of memory foam do have a very distinct smell. This smell will go away with time but it is noticeable.

Memory foam mattresses can be purchased just about anywhere that regular mattresses are sold. A salesperson in a furniture or mattress store will be able to tell you the details of the specific mattress you are in. There are also online stores that sell memory foam mattresses.

These have many different options available and have a customer service number that can be contacted if you have any questions or if you need any help in deciding which one you would like to purchase. The mattress is then shipped to your house for you to set up.

A memory foam mattress is a new comer to the mattress world. It offers a lot of support and will last a long time. These do come with a higher price but these mattresses are well worth their price.
