The Life Of A Minicab Driver    By: There is also the matter of wear and tear on your
There is also the matter of wear and tear on your vehicles. Minicabs cover a massive amount of miles every year and this will result, very regularly, in worn or broken components. Brake pads, gearboxes and clutches on taxis all do far more work than those on a ‘normal car’ and will need to be replaced frequently as a result. This can be a very costly business and, if you are not getting as many fares as you would like, then it can make a big difference to your profits. It is also important to have a good level of minicab insurance cover for your vehicles. Taxi drivers put themselves in far more danger than most other drivers because they are on the road for so many hours each day. The longer we spend behind the wheel of a car, the greater our chances will become of being involved in a collision. Even if we are exceptionally careful drivers, there are still plenty of other car owners out there who are not. And these are only some of the problems, risks and expenses involved with providing your own taxi service. There are plenty of other factors to consider which make it far less appealing. For instance, just imagine how hot you get when you are sat around waiting for fares in the middle of summer. ‘But modern cars are fitted with air conditioning.’ You point out. Well yes, most of them are; but you can hardly sit with your engine running every time you stop! However, one of the very largest dangers to be involved with minicab work has yet to be touched upon. It is a constant, niggling fear of any taxi driver and it is also one of the main reasons for having proper insurance for a minicab... it is robbery. When you are picking people up, you can never be totally sure of your safety. Thankfully, being robbed at knifepoint for your takings is not an everyday occurrence, but it is still a frightening possibility. If this ever does happen to you, then there is only ever one sensible option; give them the money! Being a hero is not worth the risk; your life is far more important than a few hundred pounds worth of fares. So, you are probably beginning to see that running a minicab business isn’t quite as ‘cushy’ as you thought! In fact, it is full of risks, stress, expense and plenty of good old-fashioned hard work.(read entire article)(posted on: 2010-09-24)

The Beginner’s Guide To Finding Insurance Online    By: It wasn’t so many years ago that we would have nee
It wasn’t so many years ago that we would have needed to get our quotes by ringing around several different companies. Not only was this a time-consuming exercise, but it could add quite a bit extra to your quarterly phone bill! You would also find yourself having to fend off over-enthusiastic agents a lot of the time which could rapidly become pretty tedious. Well, thankfully those days have now long gone. This is the twenty-first century and we have the huge convenience at our fingertips that is called ‘The Internet’! Searching for an insurance policy is now fast, simple and completely free of pushy sales staff. But, is there a recommended way of finding your insurance online? Not everyone out there is a wizard on their computer and it can all seem a bit daunting the first time around... Here are a few of the basics if you have never shopped for your vehicle cover on the Net – Be Prepared It is important that you have all of your vehicle’s documentation to hand. Most insurers will want plenty of details before giving you a quote and you will need to know the answers! Look Around Thoroughly Don’t restrict your searching to price comparison sites. Not all insurers will be shown in their results and you may well be missing out on a really good deal! Think of a few well-known companies and have a look at their own websites. The Cost/Cover Ratio You will soon discover that it’s actually quite easy to find a low quote for your vehicle... but will it give you an adequate degree of cover? There are always plenty of ‘cheap as chips’ policies out there, however, many of these will only give you a feeble amount of protection! With insurance it is often worth paying a little bit extra to make sure you get a more comprehensive policy. Do Your Revision! Before making any final decisions on a policy it is very important to read through the finer details. And the great thing about shopping for your insurance online is that there will be plenty of information. Whatever type of policy you are looking at should tell you exactly what is/is not covered. Is Your Vehicle ‘Special’? It can be surprisingly difficult to find cover for certain vehicles. For example, many companies are not keen on insuring motorhomes or vans. If you do have this problem, then you are best looking online for a specialist insurer as they will normally come up with a far more realistic quote. If you compare van insurance prices between several companies, then you will see just how large a variation there can be.(read entire article)(posted on: 2010-09-23)

The Ultimate Multi-purpose Vehicle    By: And if you have ever wondered why there are so man
And if you have ever wondered why there are so many different types of commercial UK van insurance, then have a read through the list below. You will soon begin to understand! And these are only a few of the ways we use the van! Chip Van We all enjoy our fish and chips, don’t we? But if we live out in a village, then there may not be a chippy anywhere nearby! Enter the chip van! For those of us that live in the more rural areas, these can be a godsend when we just don’t feel like cooking! Many villages will be visited by one of these on a certain day of the week and they can be a very welcome sight. Ice Cream Van Imagine what our summers would be like without the convenience of ice cream vans! Everyone associates their tinny jingles with the summertime, even if it will normally result in the kids pestering us for a lolly or a choc ice... We all love it really! Work Van Plasters, joiners, electricians and plumbers would all struggle to carry out their work if they did not have a van. Not only are work vans an important means of transport, but they can also carry an enormous amount of tools, materials and equipment. Camper Van We even use vans for our holidays! Every single year, thousands of us will ‘get our motors running and head out on the highway’ in our camper vans. They really are a great way of getting away from it all. Over the years, camper vans have also become a truly iconic vehicle amongst surfers and of course, vintage car collectors! Delivery Thousands of people order goods over the internet or phone every day and have them delivered right to their door. But this would be totally impossible if we did not have vans on our roads! And now that so many of us are choosing to do our food shopping online they are becoming even more important. Ambulance Not having an ambulance service doesn’t even bear thinking about! Hundreds of lives are saved every single day and it is all down to the amazing work of our ambulance men and women. But they would not get to those needing help without their special vans. Police Van This may not be the type of vehicle we choose to go for a ride in, but imagine how useful they are to our police force! They will keep officers safe and away from harm and they are invaluable for transporting prisoners to and from court and prison. These vans are also used by police dog handlers and their dogs when an emergency arises.(read entire article)(posted on: 2010-09-23)

The Story Of The Motorhome    By: Well, these vehicles certainly did not just come a
Well, these vehicles certainly did not just come about overnight. The caravan existed long before the motorhome did and it was this that first paved the way. Caravans were initially reserved for circus performers or showmen in the early 1800s and were not used by holidaymakers until much later on. They also became the vehicle of choice amongst Gypsies and by 1850 most Romany’s had their own ‘vardos’ to accommodate their roving lifestyle. But it wasn’t until around 1910 that someone had the idea of combining a caravan with a truck body... The first examples of this were seen in Canada. And by the 1920s, vehicle manufacturers were creating the first wave of motorhomes for the general public. The original ‘motorised caravans’ may have been somewhat clunky affairs, but like any other invention, they would go on to become far better over time. A good motorhome is put together with convenience in mind and by the mid 1950s manufacturers were becoming increasingly clued-in to the requirements of their customers. Initial design problems were being ironed out and far more was now centred around practicality. These vintage camper vans were very thoughtfully put together and are still used by many travellers even today. Modern motorhomes continue to employ new innovations and to offer their owners a maximum degree of comfort, convenience and luxury. Advances in technology have made it possible to include many more creature comforts in the design of today’s vehicles and they are now better than ever before. Showers, televisions, sound systems, DVD players and even games consoles are all popular features in the motorhomes of the twenty-first century! All in all, there is very little in a brick-built home that cannot be replicated or incorporated into the design of a modern motorhome. But, in one way, the amount of gadgetry or convenience we have installed into our motorhomes is irrelevant. When we have our own vehicle to accommodate us whilst we are taking our holiday, it will become our ‘second home’. It doesn’t matter if it is incredibly basic inside or full of ‘state of the art equipment’; it is still where we will eat, sleep and spend a good deal of our time whilst we are away. Bearing this in mind, it is incredibly important to keep it as safe as possible. This means having high quality locks on doors, secure windows and a good motorhome insurance policy in place. Just what motorhomes of the future will be like is an exciting prospect indeed. No doubt they will offer their owners an even higher degree of comfort and there is bound to be plenty of cutting edge technology involved. But one thing is for sure when we think about the ‘motorised caravans’ in the years to come; they are certainly going to remain just as popular as they are now!(read entire article)(posted on: 2010-09-23)
