Jaisalmer is situated in the state of Rajasthan towards the western part near the Thar Desert, close to Indo-Pak boarder.

Gadsisar Lake was built by Maharawal Gadsi in 14th century and is the main source of drinking water for Jaisalmer. There are many small temples and shrines around the lake and boating can be enjoyed.
On the approach road to Gadsisar Lake is a gateway known as Tillon ki pol built by a royal courtesan named Tillon.
About 45 km from Jaisalmer is the Desert National Park, where you can find wild life like blackbuck, chinkara, wolf, Indian fox, desert fox, hare and desert cat.
Just 17 km from Jaisalmer is the Akal Fossil Forest, where fossilized remnants of a 180 million year old forest is found.
