Different Ways To Get From Delhi To Shirdi By: Rashmiranjan Patil
Shirdi, a small town in Maharashtra, is famous worldwide for its association with the great Indian Saint, Shirdi Sai Baba. Situated in the Ahmednagar District of Maharashtra, Shirdi is also known as the 'Land of Sai'.
The Shirdi temple complex which is the main attraction of Shirdi is spread over an area of about 200 square meters. Maruti Temple and Shani Temple, constructed under the supervision of Shirdi Sai Baba, are the other places of attraction in Shirdi. Maruti Mandir is considered being a favourite place of Sai Baba, who used to conduct satsangs here on a regular basis.
Delhi, the capital of India, is situated by the Yamuna River. Delhi has its historical importance for the fact that it has been the seat of the Mughal Empire for many years. Dotted with tombs, forts and monuments, apart from its historical importance, Delhi also happens to be the political hub of India, serving as the centre of the Government of India. The city was planned by the British architect, Sir Edwin Lutyens, thus giving the name 'Lutyens' Delhi.
The distance from Delhi to Shirdi is 1250 km. The fastest way to cover the distance is to fly from Delhi to Shirdi. Shirdi does not have an airport, but one can take a flight to Nashik, the airport closest to Shirdi, from Delhi. This is not the best way to travel from Shirdi to Delhi, as only a single air line operates in this route.
Though there are no direct trains connecting Delhi and Shirdi, one can travel from Delhi to Shirdi via Kopargaon or Manmad. These two stations are 14 and 55 km, respectively, from Shirdi with direct train connections from either the New Delhi railway station or the Nizamudin railway station in Delhi.
Some trains from Delhi to Shirdi via Manmad or Kopargaon are Punjab Mail (12137), Swarna Jayanthi (12643), Nizamuddin Kolhapur Express (12148), Nizamuddin Pune Super Express (12264), Mangla Lakshadweep Express (12618), Jhelum Express (11077), Amritsar Nanded Express (12716), Goa Express (12779), Amritsar Dadar Express (11058) and Karnataka Express (12628). From Manmad and Kopargaon, taxis, buses and a few passenger trains are available to Shirdi.
Driving down from Delhi to Shirdi is also an option. You can cover the distance, ideally spread over two days, and it takes an average time of 18 to 20 driving hours.
Interstate buses are also available from the ISBT Delhi to Shirdi, conveniently plying overnight.
More comfortable private A/C and non A/C buses are available from Delhi to Shirdi and may cost Rs 1500 to Rs 2000 per head, depending on the type of bus and seat selected.
Another option is to hire taxi from Delhi to Shirdi which will cost about Rs 10,000.

Job Charnock, an administrator of the English East India Company, was the founder of Kolkata. Kolkata is a fast growing city with many modern developments. Kolkata has many educational institutions, multiplexes, flyovers and other offices. The first metro rail of the country was constructed in Kolkata. Here we can find hand-pulled rickshaws and trams. Kolkata is the birthplace of many eminent personalities like Rabindranath Tagore, Swami Vivekananda, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and many others. The city houses many educational institutions and tourist places. Mother Theresa, a Nobel Prize winner for Peace, has served the nation by making Kolkata as her base. Bus is not an option to travel from Delhi to Kolkata as Kolkata is situated more than 1000 km away from Delhi.
Taxis charge Rs. 27,900/- to reach Delhi to Kolkata. This cab is for four people. For seven people it costs Rs. 39,500/- for a round trip.
If you have your own vehicle it takes approximately 20 hours 10 minutes to cover the distance of 1481 km depending upon the vehicle.

Mumbai, the capital city of Maharashtra, which is also commonly referred to as the financial capital of the country, is one of the most important metros of India. As such, Mumbai is well connected with all important cities of the world, and especially other Indian cities like New Delhi, Kolkata and Bangalore among others.
Bangalore, the IT capital of India is also one of the most sought after tourist destinations of the country. It presents a beautiful amalgamation of past heritage with contemporary lifestyle. Replete with natural attractions, gardens and other historic sites, Bangalore charms its way into the heart of its visitors. Bangalore also enjoys good connectivity with all parts of the world in general and important cities of the country in particular.

Some of the important trains that connect Mumbai and Bangalore are Udyan Express (16529), Nagarcoil Express (16339), Trivandrum Express (16331), Chalukya Express (11017) and Coimbatore Express (11013) among others.
Air travel is an excellent option to travel from Mumbai to Bangalore, especially if money is not a concern. There are around 50 flights operated by different airlines to choose from. Flying is the best option for the businessmen and those who are hard-pressed for time. Air travel between the two cities would only take around one and a half hours. Though costlier than train, flights are best option for busy executives and businessmen.
Another option is to hire a cab to travel from Mumbai to Bangalore. This option is costly as a round trip would cost close to INR 25000, according to the type of cab chosen. Good option if travelling with family and kids.

Pune, the second largest city in the state of Maharashtra, is located at the confluence of Mula and Mutha Rivers. Founded by the valiant Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaja, Pune lies at an elevation of about 560 meters from sea level and is popularly known as the 'Queen of Deccan'.
Mumbai, the capital of the state of Maharashtra, formed by a group of seven connected islands, namely Bombay Island, Parel, Mazagaon, Mahim, Colaba, Worli and Old Woman's Island, was formerly known as Bombay. In 1996 the city's name was officially changed to Mumbai, the original Marathi name derived from the Goddess Mumba who was worshipped by the Koli fishermen who were the first inhabitants.

Ahmedabad, located on the banks of the River Sabarmati, is one of the fastest growing cities in India. Ahmedabad is closely associated with the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi. He established the famous Sabarmati Ashram on the banks of the river in 1915. Ahmedabad was earlier known as Karnavati. It was named after King Karandev. When the medieval ruler Sultan Ahmed Shah conquered the place, he named it as Ahmedabad.
Muslim monuments in the city are the tombs of Ahmed Shah and his queens, Ahmed Shah's Mosque, Jama Masjid, Mosque of Sidi Sayid, Teen Darwaza or Triple Gateway, Rani Rupmati Mosque and Jhulta Minara. Akshardham Temple, Hatheesing Jain Temples and ISKCON Temple are the temples in the city.

Some of these trains are going to Jodhpur and Ajmer side from Bangalore and Mysore. The train journey takes 11 hours to 13 hours to reach Pune from Ahmedabad.
Both the places are well connected by road also. Private operators are running buses on this route. The bus fare from Ahmedabad to Pune ranges from Rs.500 to Rs.1400 depending on the type of bus the travellers wish to travel. The taxi cabs charges a fare of around Rs.14000 for the trip. The road journey for the trip takes about ten hours.

New Delhi, on the other hand, is undoubtedly the most historic city of the country from time immemorial. Boasting of a rich and ancient cultural past, New Delhi has always had a prominent place in Indian history and politics. Much of the modern Indian history is centred on this magnificent city. As the distance between both the places is pretty high, travelling by road is not recommended.
