George's Rants And Raves: Platinum 7x Vodka    By: George Brozowski
You know, honestly, the story of Vodka should be straightforward and simple, but that is just not turning out to be the case. After all, it is by definition an odorless, colorless liquid with no taste. How complicated can that be? Hell, you can make it out of any old grain: potatoes, fruit, bread, or anything else with a bit of sugar in it and then just distill it down and voila – vodka. What else can there be to say about this liquid? Plenty, it turns out.(read entire article)(posted on: 2012-07-09)

George's Rants And Raves: Fair Premium Vodka    By: George Brozowski
As I first gazed upon the bottle, my initial thought was why would anyone name a bottle of Vodka “Fair” when they just as well could have named it “Great”? As I read a bit further down the bottle, it become more obvious; this vodka was made from Fair Trade Certified Quinoa. Now, there's a mouthful of meaning in those four words so let's take a closer look.(read entire article)(posted on: 2012-07-09)

George's Rants And Raves: Vision Vodka    By: George Brozowski
Holy cow, lately it seems that I am getting new Vodkas almost every day. I am really beginning to wonder how the marketplace can sustain this much product? After all, there are over 2,500 brands of Scotch, 1,100 Tequilas and I'm willing to bet you that global production of vodka probably hovers around 7,000 brands of Vodka. That figure is easily achieved if you realize that almost every country in the world produces some sort of Vodka and there are multiple producers in most countries and those producers distill a number of flavored vodkas. Do the math, and you'll come up with a number close to mine.(read entire article)(posted on: 2012-07-09)

George's Rants & Raves: The Macallan 12 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whiskey    By: George Brozowski
With over 2,500 brands of Scotch Whiskey being produced by about 125 distilleries, things can get a might confusing when attempting to discuss Scotch Whiskey. And just to complicate matters further, there are 5 single malt regions in Scotland each with their own distinctive taste profiles; Speyside where Macallan is made, Lowlands, Highlands, Islay, Campbeltown, and the Islands. And to cap it off Scotch Whiskey is not just Scotch Whiskey it's either Scotch Whiskey or Blended Scotch Whiskey or blended grain Scotch whiskey or Blended Malt Scotch Whiskey or finally Single Malt Scotch Whiskey and/or Single grain Scotch Whiskey. And just imagine, all that Scotch is being produced in a country the size of tiny little old South Carolina. I'm willing to bet that the only crop grown in Scotland is barley and 100% of that is used to make Scotch. I'm further willing to bet that every man, woman, and yes, even every child is employed in making Scotch. If there are any animals in Scotland, they must be there because they(read entire article)(posted on: 2012-07-09)

George's Rants And Raves: Partida Tequila    By: George Brozowski
At the end of the 17thcentury, the Swedish naturalist, Carl Van Linneo, began the scientific investigation of the agave plant. At that time, it was named agave, which means “magnificent” or “admirable” in Latin, and “Noble” in Greek. In Jalisco, around 1898, a botanist named Weber was the first to identify the “agave tequilero” or blue agave. In 1902, the name Agave Tequilana Weber was proposed. The “blue” was later added to the name since it was the color that the plants would present when they were healthy. This is what makes Tequila. There are 1.2 million acres of Mexico planted with Blue Agave that are tended by over 200,000 agave farmers. There are 142 registered tequila distilleries in Mexico producing 1,155 certified brands with over 2,000 brand names.(read entire article)(posted on: 2012-07-09)

George's Rants & Raves: Van Gogh Pb&j Vodka Review    By: George Brozowski
Somehow, I mistakenly came to the conclusion that there was a limit to what could be distilled and the flavors that any distillate could and should be imbued with. I have recently learned that I was horribly wrong on both counts.(read entire article)(posted on: 2012-07-09)
